Pole Fitness Class

Pole Fitness Class

Min number of participants 2
Age 18+ yrs.
Safety support Not required
Min duration 1 h
Cost Medium
Environment Indoor

Combining strength training and expressive dance on a vertical pole in a supportive studio class, building grip strength, body confidence, and a playful sense of movement together.

The Essentials

Tips

  • Come to class with bare arms and legs (shorts and a fitted tank top are typical), since your skin needs to grip the pole for most holds and spins, and full-length leggings or sleeves cause slipping.
  • Avoid applying lotion or oil to your skin on class days, since these products reduce grip on the pole and increase the risk of sliding out of a hold unexpectedly.
  • Arrive early enough to properly warm up your shoulders, wrists, and core, since pole work places unusual demands on grip strength and upper-body stability that cold muscles aren't prepared for.
  • Progress through moves in the order your instructor teaches them rather than trying advanced spins or inverts on your own, since pole techniques build on each other and skipping steps significantly raises injury risk.

Safety Tips

  • Keep the area around your pole clear of mats, bags, and other students during floor work and spins, since collisions during a spin are a common and easily avoidable cause of injury.
  • Never attempt inverted moves (upside-down holds or spins) without a spotter or instructor supervision until you have significant experience, since falls from an inverted position carry a much higher risk of head and neck injury than falls from upright moves.
