One person falls backward with their eyes closed, trusting a small group of teammates to catch them — a classic team-building exercise that builds confidence and mutual trust in minutes.

The Essentials

How to play

  1. Form a tight double line of at least six to eight catchers facing each other, arms crossed and interlocked (alternating forearms) to form a solid human net.
  2. The faller stands on a stable platform or just stands straight in front of the line, arms crossed over their chest, feet together.
  3. The faller calls out, the group confirms they're ready, and the faller leans back stiffly, keeping their body straight like a plank.
  4. Catchers step forward and absorb the fall with their arms and shoulders, lowering the faller gently rather than stopping them abruptly.
  5. Rotate through the group so everyone who wants to gets a turn both falling and catching.

Tips

  • Never do this on a hard, slippery, or uneven surface — grass, a gym mat, or carpet reduces injury risk if a catch goes wrong.
  • Always use enough catchers for the faller's size and never let anyone catch alone; a single-person catch is not a safe trust fall.
  • The faller must stay rigid and straight — bending at the waist or grabbing for balance makes the catch much harder.
  • Great for team building: it's a fast, visceral way to build confidence in a group and works especially well as an early icebreaker before harder physical challenges.
