Walk across a flat, tensioned webbing strap suspended between two trees or poles — the elastic line stretches and bounces underfoot, demanding constant balance adjustments and building solid core strength.

The Essentials

Steps

  • Anchor the webbing between two sturdy trees or posts about hip height, using tree protectors to avoid bark damage.
  • Tighten the line with a ratchet or pulley system until it feels taut but still has a bit of bounce.
  • Approach the line, place one foot on it, and use a nearby support (a hand on a tree or a friend's shoulder) to balance while stepping up.
  • Look at a fixed point ahead rather than down at your feet, and keep your knees slightly bent.
  • Practice standing still first, then take small steps once you feel stable.

Tips

  • Start with a shorter, lower line closer to the ground until your balance improves.
  • Keep your arms out to the sides for extra stability.
  • Fall off sideways rather than forward or backward to land safely.
  • Practice barefoot or in thin-soled shoes to feel the line better.
  • Set up over grass or a soft surface while learning.
