Age 8+ yrs.
Safety support by adult Required
Min duration 30 min.

Environment Indoor / Outdoor

Draw, aim, and release an arrow at a target with precision and consistency — archery develops focus, breath control, and calm under pressure while offering a meditative quality rare in most other sports.

The Essentials

  • How to play

  • Stand side-on to the target with your feet shoulder-width apart, nock an arrow onto the bowstring, and rest it on the arrow rest.
  • Raise the bow, draw the string back to a consistent anchor point near your cheek or jaw, keeping your bow arm straight but not locked.
  • Aim using the bow's sight (or instinctively for barebow shooting), keeping both eyes open if possible.
  • Release the string smoothly by relaxing your fingers rather than jerking them away, letting the bow arm stay steady through the shot.
  • Scoring targets are divided into concentric rings, worth more points toward the center (typically 1 to 10).
  • Shoot in ends of 3 to 6 arrows, then walk down to score and retrieve them — total your score across all ends to get your final result.
