Develop a colonial plantation island — plant crops, build city buildings, and ship goods to Europe using a role-selection mechanism where the chosen role benefits everyone but the chooser most.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Each player manages a colonial plantation, growing crops, shipping goods, and building structures to earn victory points.
  • Every round, players take turns choosing a role (Settler, Mayor, Builder, Craftsman, Trader, Captain, Prospector); the chosen role's action is available to all players, but the chooser gets a bonus.
  • Goods must be shipped on ships or sold at the trading house before your warehouses overflow and you're forced to discard.
  • The game ends when a player runs out of buildings to build, colonists run out, or all victory point chips are gone; highest total points wins.

Tips

  • Balance growing crops with having enough colonists to actually produce goods — an empty plantation earns nothing.
  • Watch what roles other players are low on and pick roles that starve their strategy.
  • Corn doesn't need a shipper role to sell — it's the easiest good to convert to cash early on.
  • Track victory point chip supply late-game; a shrinking pool can end the game sooner than you expect.
