Min duration 1 h

Environment Indoor / Outdoor

Rule the Forgotten Realms city of Waterdeep as a masked Lord, sending agents to recruit adventurers and build city landmarks to complete quests and outmanoeuvre your fellow secret Lords.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Each player is secretly assigned a Lord of Waterdeep card with a hidden scoring bonus; keep it hidden until the game ends.
  • On your turn, place one of your agents on an unoccupied action space to take that action (recruit adventurers, gain resources, build a building, or play an Intrigue card).
  • You must place all your agents before you can reuse any of them; agents return to your supply at the start of the next round.
  • Complete Quest cards by turning in the required combination of adventurer types (Fighters, Rogues, Wizards, Clerics) and gold to score points and rewards.
  • The game ends after 8 rounds; total your Quest points, Lord bonus points, and any remaining resources to determine the winner.

Tips

  • Prioritize claiming high-value action spaces early, since only one agent can occupy a space per round.
  • Balance completing quick, low-reward Quests with saving resources for a few high-value ones, since hoarding without scoring wastes turns.
  • Build buildings when possible, since they give you (and sometimes opponents) extra actions for the rest of the game.
  • Keep an eye on what other players are collecting, since Intrigue cards let you disrupt their resource stockpiles.
  • Track the Lord requirements of a likely secret identity so you can plan quests that boost your bonus, even without full certainty.
