Pulling a compact deck from a carry-on to play a quick round of Go Fish, rummy, or speed with travel companions — turning four gate-side seats into a tiny card table.

The Essentials

Tips

  • Pick a small, sturdy deck that fits in a jacket pocket or seat-back pouch without bending easily.
  • Choose games that need only a table's worth of space, like rummy, speed, or Go Fish, so a tray table is enough.
  • Agree on quick, simple rules before starting so play isn't interrupted by turbulence announcements or gate calls.
  • Keep score on a phone note instead of paper, since loose scraps get lost in a bag or seat pocket.
  • Bring a second mini deck as backup in case cards slip out of reach during boarding or a bumpy ride.
  • Play cooperative or fast-round games with young kids so nobody gets stuck waiting through a long turn order.
