A tiny card game of risk and deduction — use a hand of just one card to out-manoeuvre rivals and deliver your love letter to the princess while knocking opponents out of the round.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Each player starts a round holding one card; on your turn, draw a second card, then play one of your two cards and follow its printed effect.
  • The Guard lets you guess another player's hand and eliminate them if correct (you may not guess Guard).
  • The Princess eliminates you immediately if you discard or are forced to discard her, so protect her carefully.
  • The Countess must be discarded if you're holding her alongside the King or Prince.
  • A round ends when only one player remains or the deck runs out; if the deck runs out, the player with the highest-value card wins the round.
  • Win rounds to collect Tokens of Affection; the first player to reach the target number of tokens (based on player count) wins the game.

Tips

  • Track which cards have already been played, since the deck is small and counting cards gives a big edge in guessing with the Guard.
  • Early in a round, playing the Guard to test a guess is often safer than playing higher-value cards that risk revealing information.
  • Use the Handmaid defensively when you're holding a strong card like the Princess or King, so you can't be targeted next turn.
  • Watch for a player suddenly playing low-value cards repeatedly, since it can signal they're protecting the Princess.
  • With only two players remaining, memory of discarded cards becomes even more powerful since the deck is smaller.
