Min duration 45 min.

Environment Indoor / Outdoor

Travel the ancient Tokaido road from Kyoto to Edo, stopping at inns, hot springs, temples, and panoramas to collect encounters and score the most diverse and fulfilling journey.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Each player moves their traveler along the road, and the player furthest behind always takes the next turn.
  • Stop at inns, hot springs, temples, panoramas, and encounters to collect points, meetings, and souvenirs instead of rushing to the end.
  • Some spaces can only hold one visitor at a time, so arriving early can block opponents from that spot.
  • The game ends when every traveler reaches Edo, and points are tallied from all the experiences collected along the way.
  • The traveler with the most points at the end wins, not the traveler who finishes first.

Tips

  • Being behind is an advantage since it lets you act again sooner, so don't rush ahead early in the game.
  • Balance collecting different categories like panoramas, temples, and souvenirs since bonus points reward variety.
  • Watch which spots your opponents are heading toward and consider claiming a shared space first.
  • Save some money for the hot springs and inns that offer strong late-game scoring.
  • Plan your final stretch carefully since the last few stops can swing the score significantly.
