Roll the dice and race to the top of the numbered board, climbing ladders when you're lucky and sliding back down snakes when you're not — pure chance fun for all ages.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Each player rolls a die in turn and moves their token that many squares along the numbered board.
  • Land on the bottom of a ladder and climb straight up to the square at its top.
  • Land on the head of a snake and slide straight down to the square at its tail.
  • The first player to land exactly on the final numbered square wins.

Tips

  • Play with young children as a gentle first lesson in counting and turn-taking.
  • Agree in advance whether an exact roll is needed to finish, or if a token can win on any roll that reaches or passes the last square.
  • Keep the mood light by cheering both climbs and slides equally.
  • Use a large floor mat version for toddlers so they can walk their own token along the path.
