Pour and manipulate pigmented epoxy resin to create swirling abstract panels, decorative coasters, or jewellery pieces together, watching as colours bloom and blend into a unique one-of-a-kind result.

The Essentials

Steps

  • Cover your work surface with plastic sheeting or wax paper, since resin drips easily and is hard to remove once cured.
  • Wear gloves and work in a well-ventilated room, as uncured resin fumes and skin contact can cause irritation.
  • Mix the resin and hardener in the exact ratio the manufacturer specifies, stirring slowly for a full two to three minutes to avoid trapping air bubbles.
  • Add pigments, mica powder, or small embedded objects to the mixed resin, then pour it into a mold or over your art surface.
  • Pass a small torch or heat gun lightly over the surface to pop any remaining bubbles.
  • Let the piece cure undisturbed, away from dust, for the full time listed on the product, usually 24 to 72 hours.

Tips

  • Do a small test pour first to check how your chosen pigments and colors behave once mixed.
  • Level your work surface with a bubble level, since uneven resin will pool and dry unevenly.
  • Keep a lidded box or cover nearby to protect the piece from dust while it cures.
  • Work in layers for deep pieces rather than one thick pour, so each layer cures fully and evenly.
