A word puzzle where you rearrange all the letters of a jumbled word or phrase to form a different valid word or phrase, using every letter exactly once and no others.

The Essentials

Steps

  1. Write out the jumbled letters in a circle or scattered layout instead of a straight line — it breaks the visual habit of reading them in order.
  2. Look for common letter clusters first (like "th", "ing", "tion") and try building outward from them.
  3. Count vowels and consonants separately, then sketch a rough word shape (blank spaces) before slotting letters in.
  4. Cross off each letter as you place it so you never accidentally reuse or forget one.

Tips

  • Rare letters like Q, X, J, Z narrow the possibilities fastest — start puzzling around those.
  • Say the letters out loud in different orders — hearing them sometimes triggers a word your eyes miss.
