A logic puzzle on a numbered grid: shade cells so no number repeats unshaded in any row or column, no two shaded cells touch, and the unshaded cells stay connected.

The Essentials

Steps

  1. Find pairs of the same number in a row or column — at least one of them usually needs shading.
  2. If shading a cell would make two shaded cells touch, leave it unshaded instead — mark it safe with a small dot.
  3. When a number appears three times in a line, shade the outer two if that avoids adjacency, or work out which pair can't both survive.
  4. Check the unshaded cells still form one connected group before finalizing — an isolated pocket means a mistake.

Tips

  • Work in pencil — you'll erase and revise shading often as new deductions unlock.
  • A number appearing only once in its row and column can never be shaded.
