The Essentials

  • Each round, players take turns placing one worker on an available action space on the shared board, collecting whatever resource or benefit that space provides, such as wood, clay, or the chance to plow a field.
  • Once a space is occupied for the round, no other player can use it, so timing and anticipating what others need is a key part of strategy.
  • Use your resources to build fences for pastures, plow fields for planting, build rooms to expand your house, and grow your family so you gain extra workers for future rounds.
  • Feed your family at the start of each harvest using food you have gathered or grown, since failing to do so forces you to take a begging card, which costs you points at the end of the game.
  • Balance growing your family early, which gives you more workers, against building up your farm's resources and buildings, since both contribute to your final score in different ways.
  • At the end of the game, count points for your fields, pastures, animals, house type, and family size, while subtracting points for empty spaces and begging cards; the player with the most points wins.
