The ultimate epic space opera board game — negotiate, wage war, and legislate among civilisations competing for galactic domination across a massive modular board in sessions that routinely last eight hours or more.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Each player controls a unique alien faction with its own special abilities, starting units, and home system.
  • Every round has four phases: strategy (pick a strategy card), action (players take turns moving fleets, building, trading, or researching), status (score objectives, ready cards), and agenda (vote on galactic laws once objective cards are revealed).
  • Explore, expand, exterminate, and exploit the galaxy to earn victory points; the first player to reach the target score (usually 10) wins.
  • Combat is resolved with dice rolls modified by unit upgrades and faction abilities.

Tips

  • Block out a full afternoon or evening — most games run six to eight hours even with experienced players.
  • Read your faction's special abilities carefully before the game starts; they often change the standard strategy completely.
  • Don't neglect diplomacy — trading and forming temporary alliances is often more valuable than early combat.
  • Use a phone timer or turn tracker app to keep turns brisk, since analysis paralysis is the biggest time sink.
  • Play with the same group a few times — the learning curve is steep, but the game gets much faster once everyone knows the icons and phases.
