The Essentials

How to play

  1. Pick a shallow, clear pool where the bottom is easy to see and an adult can supervise the whole time.
  2. Scatter a handful of coins or colorful dive rings across the bottom of the pool.
  3. On "go," everyone dives down to find and grab as many as they can, surfacing to breathe whenever needed.
  4. Keep score by who collects the most, or just play cooperatively until the bottom is clear.
  5. Re-scatter and repeat, mixing up the throwing pattern each round to keep it fresh.

Tips

  • Dive rings or brightly colored weighted toys are easier to spot and safer to handle than real coins for younger kids.
  • Never dive headfirst in shallow water — go feet-first or use a controlled duck-dive.
  • Take breaks between rounds so nobody pushes their breath-holding too far.
  • An adult should always watch closely, even in a shallow pool — this is not a substitute for supervision.
