Pandemic Legacy

Pandemic Legacy

Min number of participants 2
Age 13+ yrs.
Safety support by adult Not required
Min duration 1 h
Cost Medium
Environment Indoor / Outdoor

A twelve-month cooperative campaign of Pandemic where decisions have permanent consequences — cities get scarred, characters can be eliminated, and the world's map evolves as you fight to stop global outbreaks.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Never look ahead in the sealed materials (extra boxes, envelopes, or stickered content) until the game explicitly tells you to open them, since Pandemic Legacy is a campaign built on surprises that unfold over many linked sessions.
  • Make permanent changes to the board and cards exactly as instructed, including writing on cards, applying stickers, or destroying components, since the campaign's story and mechanics depend on these irreversible changes carrying over from game to game.
  • Play the games in order and don't skip months, since each session's outcome (win or loss) changes the setup and difficulty of the next one.
  • Keep the same group of players for the whole campaign whenever possible, since character abilities, relationships, and legacy decisions are tracked across the full 12-24 game arc.

Tips

  • Discuss major legacy decisions as a group before committing to them, since some choices (like which character trait to add or which city to sacrifice) have consequences that last for the rest of the campaign.
  • Don't be afraid to lose a game, since losses in Pandemic Legacy still move the story forward and often unlock new content, unlike in the base game where losing just ends the session.
  • Take a photo of the board before major changes if you're unsure about a decision, since Legacy games don't allow you to undo permanent changes once made.
  • Space out sessions with a bit of a break rather than marathoning all 12-24 games in one sitting, since the story and difficulty escalate meaningfully and are more satisfying paced over weeks.
