The Essentials

How to play

  1. Split into teams and set up 4-6 stations around the office, each a quick mini-game using only office supplies: rolling-chair races down a hallway, rubber-band archery at a target, paper-airplane distance throws, stapler curling (sliding a stapler across the floor toward a target), sticky-note speed-sorting, or a mug-stacking tower.
  2. Assign each station a simple scoring rule decided in advance (fastest time, longest distance, most accurate, etc.).
  3. Rotate every team through every station, with a scorekeeper recording each team's result at each stop.
  4. Add up total points across all stations once every team has completed the circuit.
  5. Hold a mock medal ceremony (paper medals or a trophy made from office supplies) for the top teams — the sillier the pomp, the better.

Tips

  • For chair races, clear the hallway of obstacles and cables first, and never let two chairs race directly at each other — same direction only, with someone spotting at the finish end.
  • Keep each station under 5 minutes per team so the whole circuit doesn't drag; simple is better than clever here.
  • Assign one non-competing colleague per station as scorekeeper/referee so results aren't disputed later.
  • Great for team building: it turns ordinary desk supplies into genuine competition, and the shared silliness of the medal ceremony is a great note to end an event on.
