A two-player abstract game with no board — surround your opponent's Queen Bee using heavy Bakelite insect tiles, each with unique movement rules, in an ever-shifting hexagonal hive.

The Essentials

  • Play your Queen Bee within the first four turns, delaying too long leaves you vulnerable to a fast surround
  • Learn each bug's movement rules first, the Beetle climbs on top of the hive and the Grasshopper jumps in straight lines
  • Always keep the hive connected, a move that splits it into two groups is illegal under the one-hive rule
  • Watch your opponent's Queen constantly, every move should ask whether it gets you closer to surrounding her
  • Use the Spider and Ant to control tempo since they can block your opponent's key escape spaces
  • Practice with the base set before adding expansion pieces like the Mosquito or Ladybug
