Watch for a specific type of vehicle — classically a Volkswagen Beetle — and call it out or tap another player's arm the moment you spot one, keeping a running score of who's spotted the most.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Agree on a target vehicle before starting — the classic choice is a Volkswagen Beetle, but any distinctive car, van, or truck works.
  • Whoever spots the target vehicle first calls it out (or gently taps another player's arm) and claims the point.
  • Keep score across the whole trip, or set a target number and see who reaches it first.
  • Only vehicles actually on the road count — no cheating with ones parked in a driveway you already passed twice.

Tips

  • Pick a vehicle common enough to show up regularly, especially on a long or boring stretch of road.
  • For younger kids, use a broader target like "any yellow car" instead of a specific model.
  • Set light rules for the arm-tap version so it stays a friendly game and not too rough.
  • Switch target vehicles partway through the trip to keep things fresh.
