One of the world's oldest board games — two players race their fifteen pieces around the board using dice, blending luck with deep tactical decisions to bear off first.

The Essentials

How to play

  1. Set up 15 checkers per player on the 24-point board in the standard starting positions, with both players' checkers moving in opposite directions toward their home board.
  2. Roll two dice each turn and move your checkers according to the numbers shown, either as two separate moves or combined as one longer move.
  3. A point occupied by two or more of your checkers is safe; a point with a single checker (a "blot") can be captured if an opponent lands on it, sending it to the bar.
  4. A checker sent to the bar must re-enter the game from the opponent's home board before any other move can be made.
  5. Once all 15 of your checkers are in your home board, you can start bearing them off (removing them from the board) according to the dice rolls.
  6. The first player to bear off all 15 checkers wins the game.
