Trading rounds of "I spy something..." naming colors, shapes, or objects scattered around the gate area — a no-supplies-needed guessing game that keeps young travelers engaged between announcements.

The Essentials

  • Agree with your fellow players on a time limit or a set number of rounds before you start, so the game has a clear end while you wait at the gate or terminal.
  • The first player picks something visible nearby, such as a suitcase, an airplane on the tarmac, or a sign, and gives a simple clue describing its color, shape, or first letter without naming it directly.
  • Other players take turns guessing what the item is by looking around and asking yes or no questions or simply naming objects they see.
  • Whoever guesses correctly gets to pick the next item and give the next clue, keeping the game moving between players.
  • Choose items that are actually visible from where you are sitting, since picking something hidden or too far away makes the round drag on and frustrates other players.
  • Keep clues simple and specific enough to be guessable within a few tries, adjusting the difficulty based on the age and experience of the players involved.
