Two Truths and a Lie

Two Truths and a Lie

Min number of participants 2
Age 8+ yrs.
Safety support by adult Not required
Min duration 10 min.
Cost None (Free)
Environment Indoor / Outdoor

A guessing game where each player states three personal "facts" — two true, one made up — and everyone else tries to figure out which one is the lie, learning surprising things about each other along the way.

The Essentials

Rules

  • Each player privately thinks of two true statements about themselves and one convincing lie.
  • Taking turns, a player states all three "facts" out loud in any order, without revealing which is false.
  • The other players discuss and each votes on which one they think is the lie.
  • The player reveals the answer; whoever fooled the most people, or guessed correctly the most times, wins bragging rights.

Tips

  • The best lies sound just as plausible as the truths — avoid anything too outrageous or too boring.
  • Ask follow-up questions before voting; a good liar can usually improvise convincing details.
  • Mix in genuinely surprising true facts to keep people guessing — the goal is not to make the lie obvious.
