Drawing a pencil line through sequentially numbered dots on a page, in order, to reveal a hidden picture once the last dot connects back to (or completes) the outline.

The Essentials

Steps

  1. Find dot number 1 and place your pencil there without drawing yet.
  2. Scan ahead to number 2, then draw a straight line connecting the two — resist the urge to guess the picture and jump ahead.
  3. Continue number by number, keeping the line taut and steady, letting the shape emerge naturally.
  4. When the last number connects back to an earlier point (or the start), the outline is complete — colour it in if you like.

Tips

  • Don't lift the pencil between dots if you can help it — a continuous line makes the final picture cleaner.
  • For very high dot counts, rest your hand on the page and pivot from the wrist for smoother, straighter segments.
