Settle the island of Catan by building roads, settlements, and cities using resources collected from hex tiles — trade with rivals and race to ten victory points in this modern classic.

The Essentials

  • Settle on a spot touching three different resource types, even if the numbers aren't perfect.
  • Prioritize the 6 and 8 tiles — they're rolled most often, so hexes touching them produce the most.
  • Trade early and often; hoarding resources you don't need slows you down more than fair trades hurt you.
  • Build your second settlement to cover a resource your first one lacks, not to duplicate it.
  • Grab the longest road or largest army bonus only if you can actually hold it — losing it mid-game wastes the investment.
  • Watch what opponents are collecting; a well-timed robber move can stall a rival who's close to winning.
