One teammate is blindfolded and must mold a lump of clay or playdough into a specific shape using only verbal directions from the rest of the group — a comedic test of clear communication.

The Essentials

How to play

  1. Split into small groups of 4-6 and give each group a lump of clay or playdough on a table.
  2. Blindfold one volunteer from each group and seat them in front of the clay with their hands free to touch it.
  3. Decide on a target shape beforehand (an animal, a simple object, a letter) that only the sighted group members know — the blindfolded sculptor must not be told directly what it is.
  4. The rest of the group gives only verbal directions ("pinch a bit off the top," "smooth the left side," "make it rounder there") — no touching the clay or the sculptor's hands themselves.
  5. After a set time (5-8 minutes), remove the blindfold and reveal both the target shape and the group's actual result for a good laugh.

Tips

  • Pick genuinely simple target shapes for the first round (a heart, a star, a snake) before attempting anything more ambitious.
  • Encourage one person at a time to give directions rather than everyone shouting at once — competing voices make it much harder for the sculptor to follow.
  • Keep the clay a manageable, soft size; something too large or stiff makes shaping by feel alone frustrating rather than fun.
  • Great for team building: it's a fast, funny stress-test of how clearly a group can communicate when the usual visual shortcuts are removed.
